Parish House Baroque: The Passions of Musicke: The Humours of Dowland and His Contemporaries

  • Peel House at First Lutheran Church 1515 North Cascade Avenue Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80907 United States (map)

Characterized by introspective and doleful poetry and richly chromatic and soulful melodies, the music of John Dowland and his contemporaries reflects not only the Elizabethan craze for melancholy, but also their concept of the bodily “humours” and how music—both vocal and instrumental—affects them. Featuring lutenist Keith Barnhart along with the musicians of Parish House Baroque, stir your own passions with this intimate concert of lute songs, consort music, and dances that defined the English musical landscape at the turn of the 17th century.
